My Colored Swirl by Gimp

This is how I do next with "a colored swirl of light" from DEVVV's tutorial at this link: http://www.gimpusers.com/tutorials/colored-light-swirl.html.

1.Before doing anything, I flattened the image. ("Image > Flatten Image")

2.The first next thing is to remove the unwanted black background.
I went to 'Colors > Color to Alpha'. At the colour box between the sentence "From" and "to alpha", I chose the black colour (HTML notation: 000000) since it was the colour I did not want.

This is how it came out:

2.Then, I selected everything and pasted it as a new layer in a new image with white background and used the eraser tool to make the border looks softer.

4.I went to "Filters > Distorts > Whirl and Pinch" once again. Blindly guessed at the options till the preview showed an acceptable result as you seen in the picture (><").

5.At last... I went to "Image > Autocrop Image" and it came out ready for future use.

I tried to make a wallpaper with the swirl but it came out like a postcard (- -").
